12 marathons. 12 months. One cause.
Welcome to my marathon home page! In early 2009, I embarked on a journey to run 12 marathons in 2009, or one a month, to raise funds for Horizons Foundation.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Horizons Foundation serves the
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community by making grants, strengthening LGBT organizations and leadership, and increasing
philanthropic giving. Here is a quick one-pager about Horizons Foundation.
I am pleased to report that I have finished the 12 marathons that set out to do during the year. Here are my results in the 12 marathons:
- Austin Marathon (February 15, 2009). Finish time: 3:35:52.
- Napa Valley Marathon (March 1, 2009). Finish time: 3:41:25.
- Boston Marathon (April 20, 2009). Finish time: 3:45:40.
- London Marathon (April 26, 2009). Finish time: 3:24:31.
- Los Angeles Marathon (May 25, 2009). Finish time: 3:56:20.
- San Francisco Marathon (July 26, 2009). Finish time: 3:31:56.
- Berlin Marathon (September 20, 2009). Finish time: 3:44:37.
- Wine Country Marathon - Healdsburg, CA (October 11, 2009). Finish time: 3:55:39.
- Nike Women's Marathon - San Francisco (October 18, 2009). Finish time: 3:48:12.
- New York City Marathon (November 1, 2009). Finish time: 3:41:52.
- Philadelphia Marathon (November 22, 2009). Finish time: 3:52:58.
- California International Marathon - Sacramento (December 6, 2009). Finish time: 4:19:31.
Thank YOU for being a part of my effort to run 12 marathons in the last 12 months. I know I couldn't have done this alone. Your support, inspiration and encouragement
---plus my running shoes--- have raised nearly $15,000 as of December 6, 2009, for the important work Horizons Foundation funds in the LGBT community. However, it is not too late to
donate, and you can also help me meet my challenge!
Here's the challenge: If I double the number of donors by the end of 2009, which was 75 at the time the challenge was issued in July 2009, I will run a 13th marathon
in twelve months: the Mumbai Marathon on January 17, 2010.
Here are a few fun suggested donation amounts:
- $26.20 ($1 for each mile in a marathon)
- $120 ($10 for each marathon). Donating $120 or more will also get you an automatic invite to my end of year celebration on 12/12.
- $314.40 ($1 for each mile run in the 12 marathons, so $1 * 12 * 26.2)
- $1,000 (Approx. number of miles I expect to run in all of 2009). Donating $1,000 or more will also make you a Leadership Circle donor.
Individuals donating $120 or more (i.e. $10 or more per marathon) will be automatically invited to a celebration of my 12x12 on 12/12 (December 12).
Please note: if you are already a supporter of Horizons, please consider this donation to be seperate from, and not in lieu of,
your annual donation to Horizons.
Please enter a personal message for Devesh in the box below. You will be directed to a secure donation form at Groundspring.org, Horizons' online donation provider,
when you click "Submit Form". To credit your donation properly as as sponsor of Devesh's marathons, please select "on behalf of" and enter "Devesh's 12 marathons" on that form.
