Over the past several years, Horizons’ annual gala has grown into a major community event. We’re very proud of this—and grateful to everyone who made it possible. But as we looked at our plans for the year, we also took stock of everything happening outside our doors—from the economic climate and the presidential election, to a potential ballot measure in November that would ban same-sex marriage in California. In light of these factors, we decided it would be best not to organize a physical gala this year so that the LGBT community’s energy can stay focused on these critical and time-sensitive issues—especially during what will likely prove a most eventful fall.

Instead, please mark September 20 in your calendars for Celebrate@Home. The principal feature will be an online auction, where you’ll be able to bid on a wide selection of items that you’d find at an in-person silent auction. We’ll also have a special podcast available for download from our website. (Stay tuned for more details on these.) On September 20, it’ll be up to you how to celebrate Horizons’ vital work in the LGBT community — whether gathering friends for dinner or just taking the night off to relax.

In addition to the online auction, the success of Celebrate@Home will also rely on sponsorships, with increased online and print visibility to sponsors.
