Community Issues Grants - BACW - A Fund of Our Own - Youth/Elder Donor Circle
PacBell/Digital Queers Technology Grants - Out of Cycle/Donor Advised Grants - Summary

The Horizons Foundation 1998 Community Issues cycle approved 45 grants for a record total of $125,000, representing a 19 percent increase over the 1997 amount.

As in past years, Horizons grantmaking reflected the breadth of our community and responded to the community's ever-changing needs and priorities. A grant to the Gay Latino organization Asociacion Gay Unida Impactando Latinos/as a Superarse (AGUILAS) is helping them in their efforts to diversify their funding base after seeing their AIDS-focused funding cut yet again. At the same time, a grant to AIDS Benefits Counselors is helping to meet the increasing need to support HIV+ people in their decision to return to the workplace.

Horizons grants also reflected the growing commitment of our community to meet the needs of queer youth through services and education: 34% of the Horizons grants were focused on youth. For example, a grant to the Center for Human Development will support the newly-formed Mariposa Coalition of organizations committed to serving l/g/b/t youth throughout Contra Costa.

In 1998, through partnerships with Pacific Bell Foundation we were able to provide grants of technology to 14 small LGBT organizations and through the innovative Queer Youth & Elder Donor Circle, Horizons brought together donors and activists to make more than $60,000 in grants to programs serving our LGBT youth and seniors.
