The world's first community foundation that is of, by, and for LGBTQ people, we support our entire community. At the same time, our venture philanthropy approach looks favorably toward innovative, grassroots solutions to our community's emerging needs, especially those of the most under-resourced segments of our community.
Community Issues
Horizons’ flagship grantmaking program, Community Issues, provides support to small and mid-sized LGBTQ nonprofit organizations and programs (annual budgets of $1 million or less) based in our local community: the nine counties of the SF Bay Area.
LGBTQ Donor Engagement Program
Horizons seeks to support LGBTQ donor engagement opportunities, like galas and house parties, hosted by large LGBTQ-primary organizations (annual budget over $1 million) based within the nine counties of the SF Bay Area.
Global Faith and Equality Fund
Horizons' Global Faith and Equality Fund is currently focused on supporting efforts to secure and expand LGBTI rights and reproductive justice in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The fund also resources work to amplify progressive faith voices that are LGBTI-welcoming and accepting and support comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Donor-Advised Funds
Horizons is home to over 150 donor-advised funds, through which donors make grants to organizations of their choice, with guidance from the foundation. Proposals to our donor advisors are accepted by invitation only.
Giving Circles
Horizons hosts groups of donors who pool resources to make grants to LGBTQ-serving organizations in the nine counties of the SF Bay Area. Proposals to our giving circles are accepted by invitation only.
Scholarships and Fellowships
Horizons is home to a number of scholarships and fellowships supporting the LGBTQ community in higher education and training in the SF Bay Area and beyond.
