HIV/AIDS Community Grants

Starting in 1999, Horizons Foundation collaborated with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation on the annual HIV/AIDS Community Grants. Funded by revenues from the AIDS Walk and AIDS Marathon events, as well as general unresricted funds, grants were made to organizations working to ensure access to AIDS treatments, stop the spread of HIV, and offered critically needed housing assistance and other services. In 2007, Horizons also partnered with the National AIDS Fund/Elton John AIDS Foundation to distribute funding through our HIV/AIDS Community Grants to organizations working on HIV prevention and needle exchange.

The San Francisco AIDS Walk is a 10-kilometer walkathon for which individuals and members of corporate and community-group teams collect pledges from family, friends, and co-workers to help fund organizations providing HIV/AIDS services in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and San Mateo counties. The National AIDS Marathon Training Program was developed by Walk-The-Talk Productions in 1998 to raise money for urgently needed AIDS services

Recently, as SFAF looked at their programs aimed at ending the pandemic, they realized they’d have the capacity to bring this grantmaking program back in-house starting in 2010. Horizons is honored to have administered the HIV/AIDS Community Grants for over a decade and thrilled that SFAF will continue to provide much-needed resources to HIV/AIDS organizations and programs throughout the Bay Area.
