Bay Area LGBTQ Community Foundation Launches COVID-19 Response Emergency Fund

Horizons Foundation to Distribute $275,000 in Emergency Funding to Bay Area LGBTQ Nonprofits

March 26, 2020, San Francisco – Horizons Foundation, the world’s first LGBTQ community foundation, announced its LGBTQ COVID-19 Response Emergency Fund, which will award emergency grants to Bay Area LGBTQ nonprofits amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This pandemic threatens to overwhelm the capacity of critical LGBTQ community nonprofits, as well as pose near- and long-term financial hardship,” said Horizons’ President Roger Doughty. “We will get through this crisis by being together, stepping up together, giving together, and taking the very best care we can of ourselves and of one another.”

Horizons will contribute $200,000 in emergency funding, and supporters have already contributed an additional $75,000. Supporters are invited to contribute here. One hundred percent of donations will go to the Emergency Fund.

Eligible nonprofits can submit applications for funding at, where there is more information about eligibility, process, and focus areas. LGBTQ-primary organizations in the nine counties of the Bay Area are eligible to apply. Grants will range from $2,500 to $20,000.

Additionally, earlier this month Horizons joined dozens of LGBTQ organizations across the country in signing an open letter advocating for attention to the needs of LGBTQ people at higher risk, including people living with HIV and LGBTQ seniors.
