Lesson 3

If successful, your Give OUT Day campaign will acquire new donors for your organization. Many of these donors might come from peer-to-peer fundraisers, so they may have made their gifts simply because their friends asked them to. How do you retain these folks as donors now?

Make a proper introduction

After Give OUT Day, you can upload your list of donors to your email platform and send them a series of emails not only thanking them for their donations, but also sharing more about your programs and impact. You can download donor information in your dashboard under “Reports,” “Donations.”

Cultivate them with non-fundraising content

Whether sharing impact, generating conversation, or offering information and resources, your post-Give OUT Day communications should serve to guide these new donors toward making their next gift – but only after some cultivation.

Leverage #GivingTuesday and end-of-year

Several months after Give OUT Day, the end-of-year fundraising season, including #GivingTuesday, can be a good next opportunity to ask these new donors to give again. In your ask, you can specifically acknowledge their Give OUT Day gift and explain how you’ve put it to use over the last several months. You are welcome to use the Mightycause platform for this fundraising!

Your Give OUT Day donors believe in your cause on some level, because they made an investment in your organization. But you must properly manage your relationships with these donors to retain them far into the future.

Subject: Will you join us for #GivingTuesday?

Hi [Name],

Today is Giving Tuesday, one of the biggest days in the year for nonprofits like [LGBTQ Organization].

During Give OUT Day this year, you made a generous gift, and I wanted to share a little about its impact. [Since May, we have been able to serve 1,000 youth with hotline calls, thanks in part to your generosity!]

Now, we are hoping [to raise $5,000 to fund even more hotline calls.] Will you step up again and make a gift?

Thank you again for your gift earlier this year, and I hope you can make a gift today. The impact would be tremendous.
