JUST RELEASED! Groundbreaking Study Examines Charitable Giving in the LGBT Community

By all indications, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people are at least as generous as other Americans. So why are less than 5% of them giving to support LGBT causes? More importantly, how can LGBT nonprofits capture more LGBT dollars? These are the central questions raised by new research just released by Horizons Foundation.

The first multi-part study of its kind, Building a New Tradition of LGBT Philanthropy offers a snapshot of current giving to LGBT organizations, and points to ways to expand the pool of individual donors whose untapped potential can power both the immediate and long-term success of the LGBT movement. The research is based on giving data from 39 LGBT and HIV organizations in the Bay Area, an extensive online donor survey, and a series of focus groups with LGBT donors. More...

LGBT Community Endowment Fund in the Spotlight

Horizons Foundation's LGBT Community Endowment Fund has been getting more attention - including a front page article in the San Francisco Chronicle - following a $65 million bequest by Ric Weiland to Pride Foundation, our sister LGBT foundation in the Northwest. The LGBT Community Endowment Fund will provide permanent resources to secure the rights, meet the needs, and celebrate the lives of LGBT people - forever. Over 150 individuals and couples have already told us about their planned gifts to Horizons and the Endowment Fund.

Givers & Shakers Conference Buzzes with Excitement and Inspiration

Horizons Foundation's Givers & Shakers Conference

Earlier this year, scores of donors gathered at Hotel Kabuki for Horizons Foundation's first-ever Givers & Shakers Conference. This event was geared towards individuals who currently give or have the capacity to give at least $5,000 annually to LGBT organizations.

The day was full of memorable moments, from Anthony Romero's superb luncheon address and the stimulating opening plenary with leaders of the Jewish community, to the warm hugs and excited conversations during the tea break. It was truly inspiring to see so many donors with such powerful commitments to the LGBT community all in one place, devoting a full day to learning, sharing, and questioning.

Many thanks to all of our speakers and sponsors for making the conference such a success!
