Nonprofit leaders, especially in community organizations, face nearly impossible demands, which can lead to isolation and burn-out. In response, Horizons launched our Strategic Partners Program (SPP) in 2000 to provide mutual support, individual coaching, and skills building for LGBT leaders from across the Bay Area. Equally important, SPP stitched together a network among organizations to facilitate collaboration.
An evaluation of SPP in 2007 found that 100% of the participants reported some personal and/or professional benefit from the program, including 87% who said they were better able to manage the stress and challenges of their job thanks to their participation in SPP. The program has also had a measurably positive effect on their organizations: 46% of the participants felt SPP was a factor in achieving an increased or more stable organizational budget, and 50% reported positive changes in staffing as a result of their SPP participation.
The Strategic Partnership Program concluded in late 2008. During its eight years in existence - an unusually long time for such a program - Horizons was privileged to support executive directors from the following organizations:
