Community, Pride, and Resistance
Close to 250 friends, grantee partners, and supporters joined Horizons Foundation on Saturday, October 11 in the vibrant halls of the California Academy of Sciences for A Night of Pride to celebrate our 45th anniversary and uplift the progress and resilience of our movement. We were especially excited to honor our special guests: Joe Hawkins, CEO and Co-Founder of the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center with our Visionary Award for his profound contributions to the LGBTQ community, particularly in the East Bay, and Dolby with our Leadership Award for its stalwart philanthropic support of Horizons and other LGBTQ nonprofits.

Community artists SNJV and Criibaby wowed the room with their unique stylings of dance and music, and 1940’s-style jazz singer Veronica Klaus delivered an exceptional and personal vocal performance. Horizons President Roger Doughty gave an impassioned and inspiring speech about critical ways our community can respond in these challenging times (read his remarks here). At the after party, Cheer SF created an electric atmosphere while guests perused exciting art installations and circus performers roamed the floor, dazzling the eye.
Finally, our Night of Pride would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our sponsors and partners—especially given today’s political climate.
The presence of our supporters at our event reinforces that community is our strength, that pride is, itself, resistance, and that we are much more than what we survive—we are what we build together.
