Horizons Foundation Announces RFP for 2018 Community Issues Grants

June 27, 2018, San Francisco, CA—Horizons Foundation, the community organization serving the LGBTQ community in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, today issued a request for proposals for their upcoming 2018 Community Issues grant cycle. The annual Community Issues process supports organizations or projects serving LGBTQ people in the nine Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Most Community Issues grants support general operating costs for LGBTQ-specific nonprofits working on a wide array of issues with multiple populations within the LGBTQ community. Community Issues grants also support non LGBTQ-specific nonprofits on their LGBTQ-specific projects.  Applications are due by August 8, 2018. Information and the application are downloadable at horizonsfoundation.org.

To help organizations maximize their opportunity, Horizons will be offering a series of webinars for organizations interested in applying. The workshops will be held on Monday, July 9 from Noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 11 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Community Issues grants is one of the cornerstones of Horizons’ efforts to fuel the LGBTQ community. In 2017, Horizons awarded more than $2.55 million in grants to organizations that secure the rights, meet the needs, and celebrate the lives of LGBTQ people both here in the Bay Area and across the world. Grantees are chosen by a panel of professionals who have roots in the community and are experts in at least one of the categories Horizons’ funds: Advocacy and Civil Rights; Arts and Culture; Community Building and Leadership: Health and Human Services; and/or Scholarships and Fellowships.

“Horizons’ Community Issues grants are integral to resourcing LGBTQ programs and projects throughout the nine counties of the Bay Area,” stated Vice President of Grants, Programs, and Strategic Initiatives, Francisco O. Buchting, PhD. “We are able to fund grassroots organizations that serve distinct and important constituencies in the LGBTQ community at the local level as well as organizations that work at the state and national level. Each year, we look forward to receiving proposals to carry to carry out in the areas of Arts & Culture, Health and Human Services, Community Building, and Human Rights”.
