OVERVIEW
Since 2004, the EBSC-OLAS LGBTQ+ Asylum Program has promoted community connections for Latinx LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers in the Bay Area by facilitating free, culturally relevant, and supportive experiences through weekend retreats, events, wraparound legal and social services, psychological support, and community-building. OLAS means “waves” in Spanish and is an acronym for LGBTQ Organization for Support and Solidarity.
Our integrated programs provide a supportive community and safe spaces where they strengthen their wellness, skills, and sense of belonging as they adjust to life in the U.S.
We offer:
- Comprehensive immigration legal services.
- Support services facilitating access to housing and rental assistance, Medi-Cal, food stamps, and other public benefits.
- Psychological support, arts workshops, and community building through retreats and workshops facilitated by bilingual LGBTQ mental health professionals
- Storytelling projects that amplify LGBTQ+ immigrant voices
