OVERVIEW

We are a SF Bay Area organization that creates permanency for children and youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. We are also experts and champions of LGBTQ families and LGBTQ+ youth involved in or at risk of involvement in the child welfare system.

Family Builders has been dedicated to working with LGBTQ+ families and youth for more than 25 years, having led the way as one of the first adoption agencies in the country to welcome single and partnered LGBT parents. Annually, almost 50% of the families who adopt through Family Builders are LGBTQ+.

Family Builders became the first adoption agency recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for its best practices in serving LGBT-led families and was instrumental in the passage of SB 407. Family Builders also has a national program in place that ensures all resource parents for children in foster care can be supportive and accepting of LGBTQ+ children and youth in their care.
