Forever

LGBTQ pride can last a lifetime.

Through a legacy gift,
it can last forever.

With legacy giving — that is, gifts through wills and trusts — the feeling of LGBTQ pride can last forever — for you, and for future generations of LGBTQ people.

Horizons Foundation hosted a virtual information session, Pride Forever: An Introduction to Legacy Giving for the LGBTQ Community! Watch below to learn more about the transformative potential of legacy gifts, and hear directly from people like you about their own gifts. Learn about gift types that cost nothing to you now and can reduce your taxes, and explore options for getting started, whatever your philanthropic interests.

We'd love to hear from you and assist you in crafting your legacy plan. Schedule a time to chat with Horizons' leadership about this opportunity, completely free of charge.

How does legacy giving create Pride Forever?

Imagine how you felt at your first Pride march, your first protest, a significant event with your partner, or simply an everyday moment you felt immensely proud to be who you are. This sense of LGBTQ pride is possible to recreate — for ourselves, and for all LGBTQ people, now and into the future. Legacy giving — gifts of estate through wills and trusts — makes that possible.

In short, a legacy gift is often the best way to make the biggest impact on the future of the LGBTQ community. Among your many options for making a legacy gift, you have the opportunity to contribute to the LGBTQ Community Endowment Fund, a permanent source of funds that enables Horizons Foundation to award grants, year after year, to LGBTQ nonprofits in the SF Bay Area – to be there whenever and wherever the need is greatest.

Why is legacy giving important for the LGBTQ community?

The LGBTQ community has made great strides over the decades, but at the same time, LGBTQ people still face major challenges, including discrimination, poorer health outcomes, and poverty, with even greater need among youth and elders, transgender people, LGBTQ communities of color, and many more.

We also know that we can't predict our community's future needs, a reality painfully underscored by the nation’s 45th presidency, the seeming demise of Roe v. Wade, and the devastating and sudden impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Legacy giving allows our community to build resources for the future and to be prepared for whatever challenges and opportunities might come our way.

Why should I create my legacy with Horizons?

Ranking among the top-ten funders in the history of the LGBTQ movement, Horizons is the world's first community foundation of, by, and for LGBTQ people, founded in 1980. A core part of our work is to steward legacy gifts – gifts with the highest philanthropic potential to secure the future of the LGBTQ community.

Horizons has already identified over $120 million in future legacy gifts – an unprecedented achievement – having grown our Legacy Circle to hundreds of LGBTQ people who share a desire to create an enduring impact. Our goal is to exceed $250 million by 2025 to meaningfully advance our vision of a world where all LGBTQ people live freely and fully.

With LGBTQ subject-matter expertise and deep relationships across the SF Bay Area, Horizons can provide whatever support you need – from informal counsel to formalized gift agreements, all free of charge –  in crafting a legacy plan that aligns with your values and interests, including and beyond the LGBTQ community.
