The funds requested from Horizons Foundation are for the purpose of planning, developing, and securing a location for a community organized and operated Community Center in Hayward, California, serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning community. The mission of the Hayward GLBTQ Community Center is: "To provide a safe and substance-free meeting place with social, informational and community awareness programs serving the LGBTQ community of all ages and their friends

Support for the Community Acupuncture and Massage Program for youth will provide holistic medical treatment such as acupuncture, herbal medicines, and massage to disadvantaged and high risk youth

It will also impact attitudes and behaviors that lead to exclusion of LGBT people in the Jewish institutional life by developing a training curriculum and providing staff and volunteer training in LGBT issues at JFCS and five additional community-based organizations

Support of a grant writer for a cooperative project of Gay & Lesbian Outreach to Elders in San Francisco, Lavender Seniors of the East Bay, and Spectrum Center in Marin, this is the nation's first collaborative effort to serve older gays and lesbians. It will provide emotional Support to isolated seniors in San Francisco, Marin and the East Bay by training and supervising volunteers who will offer telephone support, home visits and group connections to at-risk seniors whose fear of discrimination have kept them hidden from mainstream services. The Collaborative will also train mainstream health and social service providers to be more effective in aiding people who have been afraid to seek the assistance they need.
